Purpose (the reason it is taught)

Technology is rapidly influencing the lives of everyone- transforming work, transport, communication and leisure opportunities worldwide. At Tyntesfield Primary, we aim to deliver a high quality, inclusive computing curriculum geared towards engaging all pupils to participate as responsible, online global citizens- now and in the future. Our curriculum comprises of the Teach Computing Curriculum developed by the National Centre for Computing Education and our Online Safety Curriculum based on the Education for a Connected World document.

Pupil well-being is also an integral part of the Tyntesfield computing curriculum. This is instilled through the close correlation with our Life Skills curriculum, encouraging pupils to appreciate a balanced view of the benefits and risks the online world presents whilst becoming conscientious and critical users of technology.

We aim to use ICT to enhance the quality of teaching and learning throughout the curriculum. Computing skills are taught both discretely and across the curriculum, supporting other areas of learning across the school. We have a range of technology, including laptops, iPads, sensors, data loggers, robots, interactive boards and more, that enable us to effectively and engagingly teach the computing curriculum. These are regularly used to help children become familiar, confident and safe within the ever changing world of technology.
