Hello and welcome to 1ZA. My name is Miss Allman and I am the class teacher, alongside our lovely teaching assistants Mrs Rowe and Mrs Bennison who help with our phonics and maths.
Year 1 is the most exciting year! Moving from Reception to Year 1 is a big change as we start to explore different subjects and discover new ways to learn. A key focus in class 1ZA is to support all of our children with that change in a caring and nurturing environment and to help them develop skills at their own pace. We will be working on projects in pairs, in small groups or as a whole class. We use a points reward system, with counters and Most Valued Players to celebrate individual and group achievements, which helps motivate our children to look after one another and foster team spirits. It rewards positive behaviour and helps them develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves, their peers and the wider world.
This year we will be honing our map reading skills and exploring the world we live in during Geography, studying great explorers in History, strumming our ukuleles in Music, practising new ways to join and construct in Design and Technology, using our senses in Science and painting like Picasso in Art. We will be very busy bees indeed!
In Class 1ZA we are a team who works together to build our resilience, learn from our mistakes, celebrate each and every person’s achievements and have lots and lots of fun.
