Lunchtime

Homework

There are three options: children may go home for lunch, bring a packed lunch to school or eat a school meal which is cooked on the premises. The dinner money for school lunches is payable each Monday and credits are given if a child is absent.

Extra Curricular Activities

Children are encouraged to participate in various activities either during lunchtime or after school when staff devote their own time to broaden the children's experience and learning. Activities cover a range of sports, music, art and other areas.

All children have homework. For our infant children this will mainly involve reading at home with you. Some other small tasks may be set from time to time. Our older children are expected to learn tables and spellings as set by the teacher, with an increase of set tasks throughout the junior years. Each teacher communicates to parents precise expectations regarding homework. It is important to develop good study habits and we ask parents to do all you can to encourage these, for example by trying to ensure there are no distractions and by checking to see that the work has been carried out with sufficient care and effort

Educational Visits

Parents and The School

Parents are always welcome in the school to discuss any problems or concerns there may be. The class teachers are usually available before and after school for a brief discussion, or an appointment may be made for a longer discussion. There are several official opportunities over the year to come into the school for Parents' Evenings, Curriculum Evenings, Concerts, etc. In the Autumn Term and the Summer Term we have Parental Interviews in which parents are invited to look at the child's work and discuss with the class teacher the child's progress. We see many parents in the school during the day, helping with a range of activities in and out of the classroom.

We believe it is important for the children to further their education outside the school, so educational visits are arranged for each class over the year. These may be of half-day or full day duration, or with the older children, residential.

All visits outside the school, and any activity in school should be free and available to all children concerned. We may, however, ask for voluntary contributions from parents to help cover the cost of transport, entrance fees, etc. as outlined in the charging policy determined by the Governors.
